The 5th Annual Skate Turn Up & Shoe Giveaway is officially in the books — and what an unforgettable day it was!

Over 1,100 people gathered together for a day of skating, music, art, and pure community joy. Families, youth, volunteers, and leaders came out not just for free shoes, skateboards, haircuts, and nail services, but for something even bigger: unity.

This event proved once again that when we show up for each other, the walls that divide us — whether financial, generational, or even neighborhood — begin to crumble. From kids lining up for fresh kicks to parents connecting with local resources, to police officers sharing laughs with the same youth they’ll see grow into adulthood, Skate Turn Up is about prevention through connection.

What We Accomplished Together:

  • 300 pairs of shoes distributed

  • 350 skateboard decks given away

  • 4 brand-new bikes gifted

  • 50+ haircuts and 50+ nail services provided

  • A safe, welcoming space for families to laugh, play, and build bridges

The biggest measure of success? The smiles on the faces of children and parents alike. Those smiles tell us that we’re not just hosting an event — we’re building community.

Thank You 🙏🏽

This day would not have been possible without the incredible volunteers who gave their time and energy, the vendors who provided services with love, and the sponsors whose belief in our mission fuels everything we do.

A special shout-out to our community partners and sponsors including:
Marathon Pipe Line, Downtown Long Beach Alliance, Councilwoman Mary Zendejas & LB Council District 1, LB Skate, Concrete Visionaries, Port of Long Beach, JOBA LLC, Peter & Candis Foundation, Floyd’s 99 — and many more who continue to stand beside DIG LIFE in making dreams reality.

Why It Matters

The Skate Turn Up is more than just an event. It’s a prevention tool. When two people who might not normally connect find themselves in the same line receiving resources for their families, respect is built. When young people meet officers outside of crisis, perceptions shift. And when families have their basic needs met, parents can focus on providing, and students can focus on learning.

Looking Ahead

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Skate Turn Up — bigger, better, and filled with even more opportunities to uplift our community.

Until then, DIG LIFE will continue its year-round programs: tutoring, mentoring, scholarship giveaways, youth golf clinics, health navigation workshops, and more. Because skateboards and shoes are just the beginning — our mission is to support youth and families “Kinder to Career.”

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for rolling with us.
Together, we’re proving that when community comes together, everybody wins. 🖤
